Top Gun 3 Confirmed With Tom Cruise Returning

Tom Cruise From Top Gun 2 Maverick

Top Gun 3 is coming to the big screen. After the success of its sequel “Top Gun: Mavericks” fans will be delighted to know that Tom Cruise is coming back.

The Top Gun 3 movie is expected to see Cruise reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

The 61-year-old action star played the character first in 1986’s Top Gun, then reprised the role in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed $1.496 billion worldwide.

A third instalment of the Top Gun series will be written by Top Gun: Maverick screenwriter Ehren Kruger.

According to sources, the studio also plans for Joseph Kosinski to return and for Cruise to reunite with Glen Powell and Miles Teller.

Despite Paramount’s desire to repeat the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the news has raised some eyebrows in Hollywood since Cruise recently signed a new deal with rival Warner Bros.

Additionally, sources say that the studio also plans for director Joseph Kosinski to return and for Cruise to reunite with his co-stars Glen Powell and Miles Teller.

While it’s no surprise that Paramount would look to repeat the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the news has caused some eyebrows to be raised in Hollywood as Cruise recently signed a new deal with rival studio Warner Bros.

As part of the deal, Cruise will develop and star in films for Warner Bros, but his contract is nonexclusive, so he will be able to continue working on Top Gun 3 at Paramount.

In addition to being a commercial hit, Top Gun: Maverick received an Oscar nomination for Best Picture.

Steven Spielberg said at the time he was “encouraged” to see the blockbuster on the shortlist along with Avatar: The Way of Water.

“I’m really encouraged by that,” said the legendary ET director. “[But] it came late for the film that should have been nominated a number of years ago, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. That movie would have definitely garnered a Best Picture Nomination today, so having these two blockbusters solidly presented on the top 10 list is something we should all be celebrating.”
