The Return of Michael Myers: New Halloween TV Series

The “Halloween” films have firmly cemented their place in the horror sphere. Now, the mask-wearing Michael Myers will appear in a TV series.

The “Halloween” franchise is a cultural landmark in horror. Michael Myers is well-established in the popular media space, referenced both inside and outside of the genre. The infamous slasher has spawned 13 films (the last being in 2022), and now it’s set to reach the small screen, too.

Miramax has landed the TV rights to the “Halloween” franchise, teaming up with Trancas International Films to revive Michael Myers once more. This will be the first-ever “Halloween” TV series – with the story traditionally being told in films.

Don’t expect any plot continuation from the original “Halloween” trilogy. Marc Helwig, head of Miramax, had this to say: “The foundation of it is the original film, the John Carpenter movie, the characters of that film, and perhaps a group of characters that we haven’t really focused on that much in recent film versions or even in a number of them… It’s a creative reset completely and going back to the original film, as opposed to spinning out of any of the more recent film adaptations.”

Helwig also revealed “We’re on a fast track, it’s a big priority for us. We’ve had lots of exciting conversations in recent months with a number of really talented people, and I think we’ll have a pretty good idea of what we’re going to be doing very soon. We’re hoping to lock down the creative team very soon.”

The latest “Halloween” franchise films had a rocky reception – with “Halloween Kills” (2021) and “Halloween Ends” (2022), despite being directed by David Gordon Green (“Halloween” 2018). While there have been no official announcements regarding the creative team, writer, or director, the new film is expected to return to its narrative roots of the original horror classic.
