Popular Game Series Metro to Get New VR Upgrade

Metro is one of the most loved post-apocalyptic game franchises. For over a decade, players have explored the unique and harrowing universe created by author Dmitry Glukhovsky. Mutants dominate the overground, forcing what is left of humanity into the underground train system.

The game series began in 2010, with the debut release of Metro 2033. Players take control of Artyom, one of the Moscow Metro dwellers who survived a nuclear war. He must save his home station from the dangers lurking within. Last Light (2013), Redux (2014), and Exodus (2019) continue his story.

The developers recently revealed Metro Awakening, a VR-exclusive title. This spin-off origins story will see players assume a new role that assumes an immersive, alternative perspective within the franchise.

The Future of Metro

During yesterday’s State of Play, Vertigo Games and Deep Silver revealed more information about the game. The game is a story-driven adventure with plenty of stealth and combat. Players will assume the role of Serdar, a doctor and rationalist in search of medication for his wife. We return to the tunnels, where mutants await their next unfortunate victim.

The official blurb reads: “As your courage and sanity are pushed to the limit you must learn to walk the line between life and death, the spirit and the material world, and awaken the being you will become…”

Awakening will be faithful to the series’ legacy, according to the developers. Dmitry Glukhovsky wrote the origin story himself. The author said “This origins story is so essential to me… It feels like returning to the foundations and roots of the series – now to the level that VR technology can bring.”

Metro Awakening is now available to wishlist on PSVR2, Meta Quest, and Steam VR.
